AULD LANG SYNE...

-
December 30, 1963
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
---

Some of the roughest tag team action of the winter is expected in the two top bouts that head up 1963's final professional wrestling card tonight at PARK CENTER.
---
The big number has THE KENTUCKIANS, BIG BOY BROWN and TINY ANDERSON, tackling bullies ALDO BOGNI and BRONCHO LUBICH for one hour, two-of-three falls. Meddlesome manager "COLONEL" HOMER O'DELL will be in the BOGNI / LUBICH corner.
---
The semi-windup affair pits the rugged German brother duo of KURT and KARL VON BRAUNER against the equally rough combo of IKE EAKINS and TARZAN TYLER. This match is set for forty-five minutes, also the best-of-three falls. TYLER and EAKINS will have to keep an eye peeled for the German's manager, "GENTLEMAN" SAUL WEINGROFF, who will accompany his men to the ring.
---
Newcomer ALEX MEDINA tops the prelim bouts with a one fall match against GEORGE "TWO TON" HARRIS.
---
The 8:15 opener has a pair of fast-moving midgets going at it. CHICO SANTANA and MAURICE CEMARD are the participants.

JIM CORNETTE DOES IT AGAIN...

Lay down that fiction novel you're reading.
---
There's a new non-fiction book just out containing facts that defy someone making them up.
---
I'm speaking of
THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS AND JIM CORNETTE - 25TH ANNIVERSARY SCRAPBOOK
---
I read it in two days.
---
JIM CORNETTE, along with TIM ASH, have produced a doozie.
---
'The King of Polyester', whom many of us have met at shows and festivals, spills the entire can of beans involving his life in the sometimes bizarre world of professional wrestling.
---
And, thankfully, along this winding road, he encountered BOBBY EATON, DENNIS CONDREY, STAN LANE and RAY TRAYLOR, and from this cast of characters, THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS was spawned.
---
Thankfully, throughout the years, 'The Louisville Slugger' kept a thorough log of their bookings, their match finishes, their paydays and the house numbers.
---
It's all here, along with personal reflections (good and bad) with those fabulous 'Cornette-isms' (many of which would put Yogi Berra in the back seat).
---
Here's where you can get a copy of this literary gem...
---
I strongly suggest you start clicking that mouse now.

STAN, DENNIS, BOBBY and JIM today.

RIC FLAIR "WOOS" 'EM AT LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY...

TONY STEWART WINS WILD NASCAR SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE !

Saturday, May 16, 2009
LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Concord, North Carolina
---
After a wild 10-lap last segment, Tony Stewart thrilled fans and banked $1 million on Saturday night with a win in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. He led only two laps before taking the checkers. This was Stewart's first victory in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. It was also Stewart's first victory as a Sprint Cup team owner.
---
Along with the race, there were all-day festivities at LMS, including KEVIN COSTNER and His Band, and a big part of it all was RIC FLAIR.
---
I was told by KENT BERNHARDT, Production Coordinator for the PERFORMANCE RACING NETWORK, that the lines for 'SPACE MOUNTAIN' were long all-day long.
---
And RIC disappointed no one. He was 'The Man' as always.
---
Thanks to Kent for sharing these festivities photos.

"THE BEAST" PASSES AWAY

By GREG OLIVER - Producer, SLAM! Wrestling
YVON CORMIER, eldest of the famed CORMIER brothers, who found fame around the world wrestling as THE BEAST, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer at a New Brunswick hospital. He was 70.
According to lore, YVON stumbled out of the backwoods into pro wrestling in the late 1950s, and in 1962, he hit the road to Indianapolis to train seriously ("You can't wrestle in the backyard. You've got to move away" he once said), working as Ivan The Lumberjack. JIM CROCKETT christened him THE BEAST around 1965.
---
The CORMIER brothers would tag team in many territories, in a variety of combinations, over the years, from Stampede Wrestling to Australia, from the MID-ATLANTIC states to the Maritimes, where they returned each summer.
