The PROFILE meets the SUPER CHIEF

November 13, 1961
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
---

A resumption of the big feud between CHIEF BIG HEART and RIP HAWK headlines a four-bought wrestling program tonight at PARK CENTER.

The Indian chief and "The Profile" met last week in a strange bout that never even got started, officially, that is.

The two began fighting just as soon as both reached the ring, and the referee never rang the bell. Not being able to get the participants into the ring for their instructions, the official had no choice but to call it a NO CONTEST, even though HEART and HAWK beat each other to bloody pulps on the arena floor.

Falls count anywhere in the building for tonight's battle, so fighting outside the ring will be permitted. The man first to win two falls will be the winner.

The evening's tag team affair will send the popular duo of HENRY PHILLIPS and BILLY PARKS squaring off against the rugged masked combo of THE MEDICS. This one is set for the best-of-three falls within a 45-minute time limit.

DON McCLARITY heads up the prelim bouts in a scuffle with GYPSY JOE, and the 8:15 opener finds LENNY MONTANA facing TINKER TODD.

MID-ATLANTIC RING WARS

TERRY KAY feels the wrath of KURT VON STEIGER.

LES THATCHER applies a headlock on RIP HAWK. That's referee ANGELO MARTINELLI, with THATCHER's partner JOHNNY RINGO in the background.

Referee TOMMY YOUNG looks as PAUL JONES applies a hammerlock on RIC FLAIR at CHARLOTTE's PARK CENTER.

A rare sight---referee SAM 'LUCKY' ROBERTS raises the hands of EL GAUCHO and TINKER TODD in victory.

P.Y. CHUNG has GEORGE BECKER at his mercy.

INFERNOS manager J.C. DYKES asks a poor fellow to check his shoe size.

JOHNNY WEAVER and DORY FUNK JR. battle for the NWA WORLD title.

CHRISTMAS WRESTLING IN LEXINGTON

DECEMBER 16, 1967
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

Wrestling will observe a week's hiatus at the LEXINGTON YMCA at the completion of tonight's star-packed holiday card.

The traditional Christmas holiday break will be observed on Saturday, December 23, with action returning December 30.

Two tag team main events feature tonight's festive card. Both are set for the best-of-three falls.

THE FLYING SCOTTS, GEORGE and SANDY, will meet the rough and rowdy duo of THE MISSOURI MAULER and PAMPERO FIRPO. These two teams have battled each other here before, with nothing really being settled. Perhaps that will change in tonight's contest.

Ruffians TINY MILLS and STEVE STANLEE, fresh from a victory here last week, might find the going very tough this time when they meet prize grapplers ABE JACOBS and LUTHER LINDSAY, back together after ABE's recent return to the area.

Two single matches will open the holiday program, the first at 8:15.

ROGER KIRBY will meet THE MATADOR, and DENNIS HALL faces CHUCK CONLEY.

The youthful and popular KIRBY and HALL are cousins.

LONG TIME RIVALS GO AT IT

March 27, 1965
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

The two bitter rival tag teams of the pro wrestling world, GEORGE BECKER and JOHNNY WEAVER and the skin-headed duo of BRUTE BERNARD and SKULL MURPHY, will clash in a best-of-three falls main event headlining tonight's action-packed wrestling card at the LEXINGTON YMCA.

These two teams have a hatred for one another going back several years and have battled all over the country with nothing really settled.

LEXINGTON is the battlefield tonight.

The co-feature is also a tag team affair with popular ABE JACOBS and EMIL DUPREE facing the tough combo of "SIR" NELSON ROYAL and THE VIKING. Two recorded falls is required for a victory in this match as well.

Single competition opens the card when RAY VILMER opposes MIKE VALENTINO * and KEN YATES takes on "TIGER" JACK VANSKY in the 8:15 opener.

Mike Valentino later wrestled as Baron Mikel Scicluna.

ROCK HUNTER...HUMAN OR VAMPIRE?

A vampire is a fictional being...or is it?

MID-ATLANTIC WRESTLING fans might have disagreed back in 1972. Some might have been convinced there was a vampire-like wrestler in JIM CROCKETT PROMOTIONS who got as much pleasure drawing blood from his opponents as Count Dracula himself.

The wrestler was ROCK HUNTER.

MR. HUNTER enjoyed making two men in JCP suffer more than any others...KLONDIKE BILL and NELSON ROYAL.

"KLONDIKE 'FATSO' BILL and 'COWGIRL' NELSON are my two favorite victims," said HUNTER (not me). "Why? Because they're the easiest. They don't have a brain between them. Wrestling them is like having a night off."

Fans (including me) would disagreed. I loved BILL and NELLIE.

ROCK would continue boasting, "I'd wrestle them both in a handicap match, but none of the promoters would allow it...I had to get a partner, so I picked my friend MATTI SUZUKI. We got our match in Asheville, N.C."

NELSON and KLONDIKE before the start of the Asheville, N.C. match.

"SUZUKI took care of the Alaskan goof, so I could concentrate on ROYAL, my victim of the evening. I beat on him until he could no longer stand."...ROCK HUNTER

"Then I applied my 'squeeze' hold on that Texas noggin'. I squeezed and squeezed until..."

"his head popped open like a melon. Oh, it was beautiful. That cowgirl never knew what hit him."

Maybe ROCK HUNTER couldn't count that night, but the referee could. And when ROCK refused to break his 'squeeze' hold at five, he and partner SUZUKI were disqualified, and KLONDIKE BILL and NELSON ROYAL were the winners that Asheville night.

HEELS VERSUS HEELS

March 29, 1969
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

Anything is likely to happen tonight...

RIP HAWK and SWEDE HANSON, "The Blonde Bombers" of the pro wrestling world, tear loose against an equally rough duo of THE MISSOURI MAULER and HIRO MATSUDA in tonight's LEXINGTON YMCA wrestling feature, kicking off at 8:15.

"Colonel" HOMER O'DELL, the diabolical manager of MATSUDA and the MAULER, will be accompanying his men and could get mixed up in the BATTLE OF THE BULLIES main event, scheduled for the best two-out-of-three falls.

"Let O'DELL stick his nose in the ring while I'm wrestling," said HAWK. "I've got a piledriver waiting with his name on it!" HAWK's partner HANSON had no comment.

Popular GEORGE and SANDY SCOTT will be back tonight, fresh off a victory here last week. "Bulldog" LEE HENNING and "Big" JIM GRABMIRE are the foes facing "The Flying Scotts" tonight. Two falls will decide the winning team.

Single matches send young BOBBY PAUL against the rugged ROCK HUNTER, and RANDY CURTIS will test tough EL GAUCHO in the opening match.

TEXAS MEETS GERMANY

October 29, 1966
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

TEX McKENZIE

KURT and HENRY VON STROHEIM

NELSON ROYAL

MASKED RED DEMON

EL GAUCHO

JESSE JAMES

ANGELO MARTINELLI
---
The torrid Texas team of TEX McKENZIE and NELSON ROYAL will return to the LEXINGTON YMCA tonight after a lengthy absence and will run head-on into the tough German brother duo of KURT and HENRY VON STROHEIM in the evening's main event. The Germans are on a hot streak, and the cowboys will do all they can to put a halt to their opponents' winning ways.

McKENZIE's towering 6 foot 9 inch, 290 pound frame, coupled with ROYAL's 230 pounds, gives the heroes a weight advantage over the brothers, who combine at 504 pounds. But the VON STROHEIMs are rugged, intelligent and down right mean. The best two-out-of-three falls clash should be a great one.

Another dangerous combo, the MASKED RED DEMONS, tangle with two more Texans in the persons of JESSE JAMES and KEN HOLLIS in the best-of-three falls co-feature. JESSE and KEN are fan favorites but will have their hands full as the DEMONS are tearing up all competition, fresh from a victory here last week over RIP HAWK and SWEDE HANSON, and that's no easy feat. The identities of the MASKED RED DEMONS remain an unsolved mystery.

Supporting matches pit a bright newcomer JIM OSBORNE taking on veteran JAN MADRID, and the 8:15 first match will find rugged EL GAUCHO against ANGELO MARTINELLI.
