This time out, the TOLOS brothers, victorious last Saturday over GEORGE 'CATALINA' DRAKE and RON REED, will be pitted against the stellar and spectacular duo of New Zealand's ABE JACOBS and former AAU and Olympic mat star DALE LEWIS. The two teams will go at it in a two-out-of-three falls encounter.

RON REED (who later wrestled as BUDDY COLT) will return tonight and will face THE VIKING, a rugged competitor, in the evening's semi-final. It's the best-of-three falls as well.

LUTHER LINDSAY, a local Negro star, and very popular with the fans, meets the Frenchman FELIX LAMBAN in one preliminary.

In the opening contest, young ROY DURAN will attempt to halt big bully GEORGE 'TWO TON' HARRIS, who has been on quite a tear of late.

Action gets underway at 8:15 tonight.

BOILING POINT

January 21, 1963
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

The stage is set for one of the biggest matches in the history of Charlotte professional wrestling since its debut here thirty years ago. And tonight's the night.

This match, which has building to a climax for several months now, pits the team of THE GREAT BOLO and BOLO against THE KENTUCKIANS, BIG BOY BROWN and TINY ANDERSON.

Special rules have been set for this match to insure that the BOLO team does not duck and run as they did at PARK CENTER two weeks ago. Ten wrestlers will be stationed around the ring to keep all four participants within the roped boundaries. THE KENTUCKIANS, the big fan favorites, will have two-out-of-three falls and one hour to not only defeat the hooded villains, but to unmask them and reveal their identities to the huge crowd which is expected to be in attendance.

"In the wrestling business, we call this a LUMBERJACK MATCH," said promoter JIM CROCKETT as time grows near for the big event. "No one will be able to escape if things aren't going their way."

A gigantic undercard is set for tonight's CHARLOTTE COLISEUM scene of the big showdown.

GEORGE BECKER and BILLY TWO RIVERS head it up, going against big IKE EAKINS and rugged PANCHO VILLA in the best-of-three falls semi-final tag team contest.

In single fall bouts scheduled, popular young JOHNNY WEAVER faces the Oriental villain P.Y. CHUNG.

LUTHER LINDSAY takes on EDDIE GOLD.

JOHNNY "RUBBERMAN" WALKER clashes with Japan's HOSHINO SATO.

And to add even more excitement, PENNY BANNER will face BRENDA SCOTT in a special ladies event.

A huge crowd is expected at the CHARLOTTE COLISEUM tonight, but as of press time, there were some good seats still available, according to CROCKETT.

The starting time tonight is 8:15 sharp.

DEBUTS of ANDERSON BROTHERS and KLONDIKE BILL

JULY 9, 1966
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

Fan favorite JOHNNY WEAVER gets another crack at the SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP when he meets title holder THE MISSOURI MAULER in tonight's LEXINGTON YMCA pro wrestling two-out-of-three falls main event.

It will be a rematch of a thriller here several weeks ago in which the MAULER was able to hang on to his title only by a thread.

WEAVER employed his famous "sleeper hold" for what would have been the deciding fall, but he was outside the ropes, and the brutal (and fortunate) champ was allowed to retain his belt when the referee was forced to disqualify WEAVER.

JOHNNY has promised a different outcome tonight.

In the evening's tag team battle, the popular duo of ABE JACOBS and RUDY KAYE will meet LARS and GENE ANDERSON, a rugged twosome from Minnesota, who are making their Lexington debut.

This match is also for two-of-three falls.

Another big man of wrestling, Kodiak, Alaska's KLONDIKE BILL, also makes his first appearance here when he faces the tough veteran EL GAUCHO in one of two supporting bouts.

The 8:15 opener will send two bullies, IKE EAKINS and TONY NERO, against one another.

BULLIES battle BULLIES

July 28, 1969
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
---
PARK CENTER is a great venue for professional wrestling as proven over the years, but the building may not be able to handle the action tonight when two of the very roughest and brutal tag teams (and constant rulebreakers) in the business collide head-on in the evening's headline attraction.

In what has to be billed as a BATTLE OF THE BULLIES, the skinheaded duo of BRUTE BERNARD and SKULL MURPHY clash with wrestling's 'BLONDE BOMBERS' RIP HAWK and SWEDE HANSON. Sympathies to whichever referee is assigned the job of officiating this two-out-of-three falls contest. One may describe the match as two locomotives colliding at breakneck speed.

BRUTE BERNARD and SKULL MURPHY

RIP HAWK and SWEDE HANSON

EL LOBO

ABE JACOBS

JOHNNY HEIDEMAN

ROCK HUNTER

LES WOLFE

More tag team action is in store for fans attending tonight when the popular duo of New Zealander ABE JACOBS and his youthful partner LES WOLFE face the rugged ROCK HUNTER and his masked partner EL LOBO. No one seems to know the identity of EL LOBO, and if HUNTER actually does, he isn't talking. This is also a best-of-three falls match.

Two singles matches will open the 8:15 card when JESSE JAMES takes on TOM BRADLEY and the youngster MATTI SUZUKI faces veteran tough guy JOHNNY HEIDEMAN.

SIX MEN GO TO WAR

January 11, 1965
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

Wrestling moves to THE BIG DOME, the CHARLOTTE COLISEUM, tonight as promoter JIM CROCKETT offers a big six bout card that should offer the most avid fans more than their money's worth.

Heading the huge COLISEUM card is a rematch --- with a few extra stipulations thrown in. In one corner will be all 700 pounds of THE KENTUCKIANS, TINY ANDERSON and BIG BOY BROWN, plus fan favorite GEORGE BECKER as their partner. Opposing them will be the hated trio of HOMER O'DELL, BRONCHO LUBICH and ALDO BOGNI.

O'DELL is usually clad in a tuxedo and stationed outside the ring, but tonight, he's in wrestling attire and included as the sixth participant.

"We're going to enclose the ring in a seven-foot tall chain link steel fence," CROCKETT announced, "Everybody's tired of Mr. ODELL running away when the going gets too hot. The fence should put a stop to that."

"There's also NO TIME LIMIT and NO DISQUALIFICATION in the two-out-of-three falls match," added CROCKETT.

Another tag team contest, also for the best-of-three falls, pits the popular combo of CHIEF BIG HEART and RUDY KAYE against the rugged duo of "BULLDOG" LEE HENNING and MIKE PAIDOUSIS.

A one-fall singles match promising to be very interesting sends the people's choice, JOHNNY WEAVER, against the always wild and unpredictable grappler, THE BEAST.

A special LADIES MATCH is on tap with the lovely PENNY BANNER taking on PENNY STRATTON in a one-fall contest.

Two other singles matches round out the card, which begins at 8:15.

New Zealand native ABE JACOBS faces a tough challenge against GEORGE "TWO TON" HARRIS, and EDUARDO CASTILLO meets a newcomer from the North Country who wrestles under the name of THE ALASKAN.

BOMBERS and DEMONS

October 1, 1966
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

RIP HAWK and SWEDE HANSON

PAUL DEMARCO

BOBBY SHANE

THE MASKED RED DEMONS
with GEORGE 'TWO TON' HARRIS

PENNY BANNER versus TAMMY JONES
---
A BATTLE OF THE BULLIES features professional wrestling tonight at the LEXINGTON YMCA with super roughnecks RIP HAWK and SWEDE HANSON going against the rowdy duo of THE MASKED RED DEMONS.

Both teams are known for their rough natures and lack of respect for the rules, and meeting each other tonight should pack quite a wallop. Fans who like it rough and tough should really get into this two-out-of-three falls battle.

Girl wrestlers will meet in a special one-fall event with the area's foremost female grappler, PENNY BANNER, meeting newcomer TAMMY JONES. Scouting reports on Miss JONES suggest she sometimes acts very unlady-like.

Popular and speedy BOBBY SHANE goes against the heavyweight veteran GEORGE 'TWO TON' HARRIS, and sometimes SHANE partner, PAUL DEMARCO, meets a tough one in the likes of 'BIG BOY' BLONDELL in supporting matches.

The first bell rings at 8:15 p.m.

DOUG GILBERT

JIM GRABMIRE
---
A return match between the top tag teams of fan favorites 'IRISH' MIKE CLANCY and NICK KOZAK and the rowdy skinheads, BRUTE BERNARD and SKULL MURPHY, headlines pro wrestling tonight at LEXINGTON'S YMCA gym.

This return match, set for the best two-out-of-three falls, came about because of the recent match these combos had with one another that got completely out-of-hand when falls were even. Tonight, it's NO DISQUALIFICATION and NO TIME LIMIT, so a winner is assured.

Singles action is on tap when the rugged DOC GALLAHER returns to the area to face popular RONNIE ETCHINSON.

Two top prelims are booked as well.

TIM WOODS squares off with MIKE VALENTINO, and DOUG GILBERT will test JIM GRABMIRE.

Belltime is 8:15 p.m.

Like Two Loaves of Bread - FOUR HEELS

December 9, 1968
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

Promoter JIM CROCKETT has announced the complete wrestling card set for tonight at PARK CENTER starting at 8:15.

The headliner finds two of the nation's toughest tag teams opposing one another. GENE and OLE ANDERSON, known as the "MINNESOTA WRECKING CREW", will go hammer and tong with the brutal combination of THE MISSOURI MAULER and HIRO MATSUDA. As usual, HOMER O'DELL will second the MAULER and his Japanese partner. It's set for two-out-of-three falls.

Since the ANDERSON and O'DELL teams have both been steady winners at tag team efforts, the outcome will be interesting for the fans. It will also provide a key to future main event shots for the winning combination.

Towering ART THOMAS, the wrestling sailor from Arkansas, and THE AMAZING ZUMA will test the talents of the brother duo TERRY and RONNIE GARVIN. This one is also for the best-of-three falls.

JESSE JAMES grapples with LEON BAXTER in one of the prelims.

The opener offers SILENTO RODRIGUEZ, the Mexican swifty, against EL GAUCHO in a "south of the border" contest.

A Profile of "THE PROFILE"

Throughout the fifty+ years of JIM CROCKETT PROMOTIONS, few attained the status and recognition of RIP 'The Profile' HAWK.

A long-time 'heel', RIP often made the claim in interviews that the fans, in reality, loved him and supported him. Naturally, this brought out more heat from the fans who denied this was the case. Wrestling fans did love one thing about RIP. They loved to see him get beat in his matches. Many a fan usually left the arenas disappointed in that regard. RIP usually had the final word.

Even when 'babyfaces' like JOHNNY WEAVER or JERRY BRISCO won a side bet with RIP, they ended up getting dropped on their heads when they bent over to pick up their winnings.

"Oh boy...it's payday!"

In the early 1960s, RIP squared off against another JCP icon, JOHNNY VALENTINE.

A bit of bubbly before a match...

Earning his name as HAWK rips the hair of LOUIE TILLET.

Nearing the end of his tenure with JCP, RIP poses wearing the MID-ATLANTIC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP belt (which he shared with his 'nephew', an up-and-coming youngster named FLAIR).
---
Many of us had the opportunity and privilege of meeting and getting to know RIP from his appearances at the NWA FANFESTs. The respect he has among his peers became evident listening to many of the other FANFEST wrestlers from a by-gone era.

Perhaps WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION HARLEY RACE said it best at the 2007 FANFEST..."Pound for pound, RIP HAWK was easily one of the roughest and most knowledgeable men who ever worked in the business."

As it turns out, those interviews RIP used to give were right after all---I did love RIP HAWK...and I still do.

WAHOO AND MALENKO CHAINED

Fans who witnessed a RUSSIAN CHAIN MATCH between Chief WAHOO McDANIEL and The GREAT (BORIS) MALENKO knew it wouldn't be a Greco-Roman wrestling contest.

It was KILL OR BE KILLED!

As if a long stretch of steel chain wasn't weapon enough, MALENKO tried to add to his arsenal before the match begin with a walking cane (Homer O'Dell must have been nearby).

The mad Russian gives WAHOO's noggin' a massage with the cold steel.

The Chief is in serious trouble.

It's going to be a long walk to the pay window.

In spite of the photos showing the Chief getting the short end, somehow WAHOO won the battle, beating MALENKO at his own match.

Perhaps all of those Indian Strap Matches WAHOO had paid dividends.

EDWARD 'WAHOO' MCDANIEL, Choctaw-Chickasaw Native American, was a born athlete who achieved World fame in both football and wrestling. WAHOO passed away in 2002.

THE GREAT MALENKO (Lawrence Simon), like Wahoo, was a huge wrestling star all over the world, in both single and tag team competition. He was responsible for training many young men as they broke into the pro wrestling business. He died in 1994.

SOUTHERN TITLE AT STAKE

April 8, 1967
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

The SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP is on the line tonight when the current title holder, THE MISSOURI MAULER, defends against the former champ, KLONDIKE BILL, in the headline match at the LEXINGTON YMCA.

KLONDIKE, the popular Alaskan, is out to regain the title from the MAULER, the man he first lifted it from a few months ago.

The MAULER managed to regain the belt from BILL recently under a dark cloud of controversy. KLONDIKE says that justice will prevail tonight in LEXINGTON. The title match is under stipulations of a one-hour time limit with the winner gaining two falls out of three.

The torrid Texan team of cowboys TEX McKENZIE and NELSON ROYAL will have their hands full when they meet big and rugged "Apache" BULL RAMOS and the mysterious masked grappler THE MUMMY. This best-of-three falls co-feature should produce plenty of action.

In single matches, the mammoth HAYSTACK CALHOUN returns to the YMCA to meet rough PEDRO GODOY.

Popular GREG PETERSON squares off against FRANK MARCONI in the 8:15 opening match.

TWO TON Came to Town

July 18, 1968
STATESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

The summer of 1968 was a great season for Statesville, N.C. Crockett wrestling fans. Three outdoor cards were promoted by the Community Baseball organization, and the weather cooperated for them all.

This was the second wrestling show of the three.

As per usual, my rump was parked in my $2.00 metal ringside chair to see...

Bob Nandor win over Alex Medina

Pancho Valdez in a rare victory, this time over Bobby Nichols

Abe Jacobs and the Amazing Zuma besting Tinker Todd and Johnny Heideman

and

the George "Two Ton" Harris duo of Broncho Lubich and Aldo Bogni drop their second straight Statesville match, this one to fan favorites Nelson Royal and Paul Jones.

(Bogni, Lubich and Harris had been disqualified in their June 20th Statesville match against Zuma and Mr. Wrestling.)

Statesville, then known as "The City of Progress" was not proving to be a great town for these three scalawags, but they would return the following month in the summer's final wrestling program.
